A warm welcome to Marta Barnett Counselling and Psychotherapy, where I provide a safe and confidential space for you to explore your thoughts, emotions and patterns. Whatever has brought you to therapy, I’m here to walk this journey with you as we work together to find a way forward.

With a blend of experience, empathy, and a non-judgmental approach, I am dedicated to help you gain clarity and inner strength as you make sense of your experiences and uncover what truly matters to you.

About me

BA (hons) in Counselling and Psychology, PG Dip in Counselling & Psychotherapy (distinction), MA Integrative Counselling (distinction)

Hi, I'm Marta. I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist based in Bingley, West Yorkshire. I also work from a therapy room at the Victoria Therapy Centre in Saltaire. I offer in-person sessions, as well as remote therapy online and by telephone.

My professional background in the social housing sector has given me a deep understanding of the environmental and social factors that influence our wellbeing. Through this work, I have witnessed first-hand how everyday circumstances can profoundly shape our mental, physical, and emotional health.

I have extensive experience supporting victims and survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence, offering trauma-informed support to individuals and their children. I am also a qualified Independent Domestic Violence Adviser (IDVA) and a Restorative Justice and Mediation Practitioner.

Before establishing my private practice, I worked as a therapist in both general counselling and bereavement settings, supporting clients through a wide range of life challenges and emotional experiences.

I hold a degree in Counselling and Psychology, a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy, and a Master’s in Integrative Counselling from Leeds Beckett University.

As an integrative therapist, I draw on a range of approaches to meet each client’s unique needs. My aim is to provide a compassionate and collaborative space where you can feel heard, explore your experiences, and work towards greater self-understanding and emotional wellbeing.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to their ethical framework, ensuring safe and professional practice at all times.

My approach

The therapeutic relationship is at the heart of my work. I believe it’s essential to find a connection that feels right for you, which is why I offer a free 10-minute consultation.

I work relationally and integratively, tailoring therapy to your individual needs. Together, we explore what matters most to you and how your thoughts, feelings, and experiences are connected.

I support clients with:

  • Anxiety- exploring triggers and patterns, and developing strategies to manage them day-to-day
  • Depression or low mood- exploring underlying causes and developing practical steps toward feeling better
  • Relationship difficulties- understanding relational patterns, improving communication, and building healthier connections
  • Grief or loss- creating a safe space to process feelings and find ways to cope
  • Self-esteem or confidence issues- uncovering unhelpful beliefs and building a stronger sense of self.

I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches, including:

  • Person-Centred Therapy- offering a non-judgmental, empathetic space where you feel fully heard
  • Psychodynamic & Attachment informed approaches- exploring unconscious thoughts, early experiences and relational patterns to understand how they shape your feelings and behaviours
  • Cognitive-Behavioural & Compassion-Focused Approaches (CBT & CFT)- understanding how thoughts affect feelings and behaviours, while building self-compassion and emotional resilience.

Ways I can help

Life can sometimes feel overwhelming , whether you’re struggling with anxiety, low mood, relationship difficulties, loss, or feeling stuck. You don’t have to face it alone. Therapy provides a confidential, supportive space to explore what’s happening and make sense of your feelings.

I work with adults in both short-term counselling and longer-term psychotherapy:

Short-term counselling provides focused support for a specific issue or life event, helping you develop practical strategies to cope day-to-day.

Longer-term psychotherapy offers a deeper exploration of recurring patterns, early experiences, and the emotional roots of distress, supporting you to gain lasting insight, understanding, and emotional balance.

I can help you:

  • Manage anxiety, depression, low mood, or stress
  • Improve communication, self-esteem, and connection in relationships
  • Explore relational patterns
  • Navigate grief, loss, or major life transitions
  • Identify unhelpful patterns and develop healthier coping strategies
  • Build confidence, strengthen your sense of self, and develop emotional resilience

I offer a free 10-minute consultation, a quick, no-pressure opportunity to see how I work and whether we’d be a good fit.
